On May 26 and 27, Cho-Liang Lin performs two concerts as part of Music in May at Cabrillo College.
Founded by Artistic Director Rebecca Jackson, Music in May brings globally renowned musicians to Santa Cruz for weekend of classical music. Performing works by Brahms, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky, Lin is joined by several talented musicians, including Anna Polonsky, Daniel Stewart, Jonah Kim, Jaime Amador, Liang-Ping How, Tiffany Richardson, and more.
On May 10 and 12, Cho-Liang Lin travels to Greensboro, NC to perform with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. The program features some of cinema’s greatest musical hits, including John William’s “Theme from Schindler’s List,” Lalo Schifrin’s “Tango Concertantes,” Bernard Herrmann’s “Psycho Suite,” and more. On May 11, Navona Records releases Zhen Chen’s new album, On & Between, a musical exploration of the dualities of immigrant cultures and identities. Weaving traditional Chinese instruments and folk tone with piano and Western style chamber music, On & Between is a masterstroke of sophisticated storytelling performed by a stellar ensemble of musicians.
Grammy-nominated Cho-Liang Lin performs on two of the albums tracks, “On the Roof” and “Lullaby.” He is joined by Elmira Darvarova (violin), David Geber (cello), Liang Wang (oboe), Howard Wall (French horn), Shenghua Hu (violin), Milan Milisavljević (viola), and jazz musicians Braxton Cook (saxophone) and Curtis Nowosad (drums). Lin Ma is featured throughout the album, playing the pipa, a traditional Chinese musical instrument with more than two thousand years of history.

This spring, Cho-Liang Lin performs in China and Japan, beginning on April 20 with a celebration of the Leonard Bernstein centennial in Guangzhou, China. Performed at Xinghai Concert Hall, the concert includes Bernstein’s Overture to Candide, Serenade, and Symphonic Dance from West Side Story. Jing Huan conducts the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra.
Next, on April 28, Lin appears with the China Philharmonic at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. The acclaimed violinist performs Brahms’ Violin Concert in D Major (Op. 77).
May begins with two concerts at the Miyazaki Prefectural Arts Center in Miyazaki, Japan on May 1 and May 5. A part of the Miyazaki Festival, Lin performs alongside Akiko Suwanai, a former student, in a program of works by Prokofiev, Beethoven, Grieg, Moszkowski, Brahms, Vivaldi, Bach, and Sarasate.
On March 18, Cho-Liang Lin performs in “23rd of January, 1825” at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Part of the CMS Winter Festival, the concert celebrates the dawn of chamber music concert life by recreating an evening of music programmed by violinist Ignaz Schuppanzigh (1776-1830), a friend and collaborator of Beethoven and Schubert.
The evening includes Haydn’s Quartet in E-flat major, Spohr’s Double Quartet No. 1 in D minor, and Beethoven’s Quintet in C major. Lin is joined by Kristin Lee (violin), Mark Holloway (viola), Gary Hoffmann (cello), and the Miró Quartet.
Cho-Liang Lin has been named a Si-Yo Master Artist™, joining a roster of international artists who are Si-Yo’s ambassadors of Western classical music.
Founded in 1966, the Si-Yo Music Society Foundation is a non-profit educational and cultural organization dedicated to inspiring a global community with classical music. Music lovers around the world have enjoyed Si-Yo Artist concerts, educational and community outreach events, festivals and instrument exhibitions in the United States, Asia and Italy.
On joining the Foundation, Lin says, "I am delighted to join Si-Yo Music Society Foundation, and I have long admired its mission of fostering the next generation of musical talents. I am eager to help Si-Yo with this goal."
On February 20, Cho-Liang Lin performs as part of “Through the Great War” at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Featuring musical works composed in response to World War I, the evening includes Dohnányi’s Quintet No. 2 in E-flat minor, Elgar’s Quintet in A minor, and Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin.
Lin is joined by Orion Weiss (piano), Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin), Paul Neubauer (viola), Keith Robinson (cello), Sooyun Kim (flute), James Austin Smith (oboe), Romie de Guise-Langlois (clarinet), Marc Goldberg (bassoon) and Eric Reed (horn).
The 9th Annual Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival opens on January 17, with “An Evening in Paris” featuring works by Debussy, Fauré, Ravel, Saint-Saëns and Ravel. Cho-Liang Lin serves as the festival's Artistic Director, and will be performing in five concerts throughout the festival. Lin is joined by several esteemed artists, including Orion Weiss, Anna Polonsky, Emmanuel Ceysson, Jerusalem Quartet, Sitkovetsky Trio, Patrick Gallois, Richard O’Neill, Isang Enders, Pierre Génisson, Kyoko Takezawa, Li-Wei Qin, Ori Kam, and more.
Performances continue with “A Lifetime of Beethoven” (January 19), “20th Century Masterworks” (January 20), “Viennese Interlude” (January 22), “Russian Farewell” (January 24).

Cho-Liang Lin begins 2018 with the 9th Annual Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival, presented by Premiere Performances at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Lin serves as the festival's Artistic Director, and will be performing in five concerts from January 17 to January 24.

Later, on February 20, Lin returns to the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS), performing in “Through the Great War.” This evening features music composed during World War I, including Dohnányi’s Quintet No. 2 in E-flat minor and Elgar’s Quintet in A minor. Lin again performs at CMS as part of the CMS Winter Festival, performing Spohr’s Double Quartet on March 18.
In May, Lin joins the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra for two performances (May 10 & 12) featuring music by acclaimed film composers John Williams and Lalo Schifrin. A frequent interpreter of the Schifrin's works, Lin can also be heard in a recording of Schifrin's Letters from Argentina. Dmitry Sitovetsky conducts.

This winter, Cho-Liang Lin joins the annual holiday presentation of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Opening on December 13 in Athens, Georgia, the Brandenburg Concertos then come to Alice Tully Hall on December 15, 17, and 19, with stops in Princeton, NJ (December 18), and Chicago (December 20).

On the heels of another triumphant season of La Jolla Music Society's SummerFest, Cho-Liang Lin begins the 2017-18 season in Hong Kong. Playing in the 10th anniversary gala concert of Premiere Performances of Hong Kong, Lin shares the stage with violinist Ning Feng, violist Maxim Rysanov, cellist Li-Wei Qin, double bassist Da Xung Zhang, and pianists Sa Chen, Alessio Bax, and Lucille Chung. Following the gala event, Lin travels to Beijing for a performance of Brahms and Mendelssohn, and gives a masterclass at the Central Conservatory of Music. Reuniting with regular performance partner Jon Kimura Parker, Lin gives an all-Beethoven recital with the Dallas Chamber Music series. Later in December, Lin joins colleagues of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for a series of recitals in Georgia and Alice Tully Hall in New York.
The annual summer festival in idyllic La Jolla opens on August 2 with the traditional open-air concert.
Opening night on August 4 brings Music Director Cho-Liang Lin for a program of "Fiddles vs. Pianos" with violinists Chee-Yun, David Chan, Ray Ushikubo; pianists Scott Cuellar, Christina Naughton, Michelle Naughton, Olga Kern; and bassist DaXun Zhang.

This April, Cho-Liang Lin returns to Tennessee to conduct and perform two concerts with the Nashville Symphony. On April 22, Lin leads an all-Mozart program at the Dixie Theatre in Lewisburg, TN, joining the ensemble to perform the composer's Violin Concerto No. 2. Lin also conducts Mozart's Symphony No. 29 in A Major, Eine kleine Nachtmusik, and Symphony No. 40 in G Major.
The ensemble returns to the stage on April 23 for a matinee performance of the same program at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. Learn more here.
On April 17, Cho-Liang Lin performs the opening concert of the New Asia Chamber Music Society at Merkin Concert Hall.
The program, highlighting works new and familiar, features Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Hung-Ping Chan's "Spring" and Chausson's Concerto for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet.
This April, Cho-Liang Lin reunites with Orion Weiss and the New Orford String Quartet at the Edmonton Chamber Music Society for an evening of works by French composers. Lin joins the ensemble to perform Ernest Chausson's Concerto in D Major for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet.
The program also includes Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano and Debussy's String Quartet in G Minor. The New Orford String Quartet is a Canadian-based ensemble and is comprised of violinists Jonathan Crow and Andrew Wan, violist Eric Nowlin, and cellist Brian Manker.
